VOLUNTEERS DOING THE HARD YARDS!
The volunteers who work for Mersey Community Care Association have been busy doing a garden makeover and building new gardens, in readiness for the Official Opening of the redeveloped premises, which will be commemorated on the 4th December, 2015 to coincide with the organisation’s annual celebration of International Volunteer Day.
Volunteer Coordinator Ms Sarah Scott said “Each year, in December, the organisation hosts an end of year celebration to thank our wonderful team of volunteers for their kind contribution throughout the year. This year is very special and particularly important as we will be celebrating the opening of our new premises and have some very special guests who will be joining us on the day, some of whom were the original Founding Members of the Association and we are expecting approximately 120 people to attend the function.”
Ms Scott went on to say “The redevelopment started due to the lack of adequate toilet facilities for people who may have a disability or mobility issues, however, the growing number of new volunteers who are being inducted into the organisation is increasing each month and we need adequate facilities to cater for the volunteers who work here on a daily basis. Mersey Community Care is an equal opportunity employer and in the past, where possible we have developed volunteer positions within the organisation to cater for volunteers who may be unable to participate in the regular services, due to health reasons.”
President Mr Ron Pankiv said “This is a very exciting time for Mersey Community Care and the redevelopment of the building has worked in well, with the launch of the Commonwealth My Aged Care Program, which was implemented on 1 July, 2015. Our volunteers do many hours of work in the community and work very hard, so it is wonderful to have a new building that provides a great place for the volunteers to come together, not to mention the wonderful new amenities for the volunteers to utilise.”
Mr Pankiv also said, “The Official Opening will be very special, as there will be people attending who have been involved in the organisation, from the 1970’s and we feel very privileged to be able to showcase the new premises to them and thank them for the hard work that they did all those years ago, which was the foundation for the wonderful service we have today.”
The Official Opening and celebration of International Volunteer Day will be held at Mersey Community Care Association, 167 Steele Street, Devonport on the 4th December, 2015.
