TasWater announces a new Owner Councils Chief Representative

Posted on

The Chairman of TasWater Mr Miles Hampton today announced that Mr David Downie, Mayor of the Northern Midlands Council had been appointed Chief Representative of the Owner Councils.

Mayor Downie replaces Mayor Tony Foster who has chosen to step down as Chief Representative after six years.

Mr Hampton said that Mr Foster had been both a champion of the reform process that commenced in 2009 and had played a key role in the link between the Board and Councils.

“Tony Foster’s contribution and guidance have been invaluable to the successful transfer of the water and sewerage responsibilities of the twenty nine councils and the three former bulk water authorities to TasWater”, Mr Hampton said.

The President of LGAT Mr Doug Chipman also paid tribute to the role that Mr Foster had played.

“The role of Chief Representative is a significant one which requires a lot of time and energy. Mayor Tony Foster has undertaken the role in addition to his significant role as Mayor of Brighton”, Mr Chipman said.

“Tony Foster has been a key leader in water and sewerage reform, from his initial focus on the establishment of the Hobart Regional Water Authority and then the establishment in 2009 of the four corporations that led to the formation of TasWater in January 2013,” Mr Chipman said.
