Menzies’ celebration of Christmas and community

Posted on

The Menzies Institute for Medical Research will celebrate another successful year with the community this Friday at the annual Art of Christmas event.

This year the event will also be a farewell and a welcome, with a public talk titled Menzies: Our Foundations, Our Future. The Menzies Director, Professor Tom Marwick, will speak about his three years at Menzies and the foundations in place to build the Institute’s future.

Professor Marwick will introduce the new Menzies Director, Professor Alison Venn, who will give an overview of the priorities and opportunities she sees ahead for Menzies in research, funding and partnerships.

The less formal side of the event will involve a silent auction of beautiful artwork by acclaimed Tasmanian artists.

The Art of Christmas has been raising money for medical research at Menzies for 11 years. “The people of Tasmania are so important to us at Menzies and every year the Art of Christmas is an event that allows us to mingle and enjoy the festive season with the community,” Professor Marwick said.

Menzies thanks its supporting artists who have donated beautiful works for auction: Bert Aperloo, Lorraine Biggs, Barbara Cauvin, Sara Ferrington, Nathan Grey, Richard Klekociuk, Eloise Lark-Cook, Carol Maney, Cathy McAuliffe, Kate Piekutowski, Rebecca Roth, Vanessa Wallace, Michael Weitnauer, Kim White, Tilley Wood.

We also thank our major sponsors: Clemenger, Mercury Walch and Staples.
