Liberals’ education promise in tatters
The Liberal Government’s education agenda has gone off the rails.
Shadow Education Minister Michelle O’Byrne said the Liberals’ plan to extend all high schools to year 12 has been embarrassingly dumped and now they’re poised to spend Gonski money rehiring sacked teachers.
“The Liberals have walked away from their signature education policy,” Ms O’Byrne said.
“After years of promising to take each and every public high school to year 12, the Liberals have now adopted a policy very similar to the previous government.
“Now they’re set to announce around $11 million to undo a small amount of the damage done by cutting two teachers from almost every Tasmanian school.
“This is additional funding that shouldn’t be plugging holes in the Government’s budget.
“The Government will try and dress it up as brand new money but it’s really only going part of the way to repairing the damage.”
