KINGSTON PRODUCE MARKET RETURNS
Kingborough Council is pleased to announce the return of the Kingston Produce Market, which will be held 12.30pm-4pm every Wednesday, starting 18 November, on the Council Forecourt in Kingston.
The mid-week market is an opportunity to buy fresh local produce during the week for our community and visitors. A trial market was organised earlier in the year to assess customer and producer interest in the market. This was an outstanding success and revealed the demand for a mid-week market to purchase locally grown and quality fresh produce in Kingborough.
The Kingborough Mayor, Cr Steve Wass said, “People are interested in where their food is coming from and this market allows customers to make a direct link with the producers. All of the food sold at the market is grown or produced in Southern Tasmania and we have some fantastic and well-known producers on board”. The range of products available will include fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, bread, pastries, mushrooms, honey, eggs, preserves, ferments, baked goods, plants and seedlings.
The market has been made possible through the Kingborough Food Chain project, with start-up funding from the Heart Foundation’s Healthy Food Access Tasmania project. The Council has received a Heart Foundation grant of $80,000 to develop projects that boost access to locally-grown fruit and vegetables. The Kingston Produce is an authentic Farmers Market, run within the Australian Farmers Market Association Guidelines.
