Investing in Tasmania’s creative economy

The Hodgman Liberal Government is focused on creating jobs in the creative sector and building momentum in our economy for the benefit of all Tasmanians.

The Government is a strong supporter of our contemporary arts and cultural sector, which is enjoyed by many Tasmanians and is a major drawcard for visitors to our state.

Today, I am pleased to announce funding of more than $400,000 to support Tasmanian artists.

This investment will enable musicians, designers, writers, performing and visual artists to develop their careers, enrich their artistic practice and contribute to a wealth of new experiences for art lovers across the state.

Some of the artists receiving funding support are:

• Musician Emma Anglesey from Sulphur Creek who will embark on a national tour to promote her new album.
• Visual artists and designers including Ping Chen, Scott Gelston, Mairi Ward and Jane Hodgetts who will receive funding to develop or present new work in 2016.
• Hobart-based writer Lenny Bartulin who will receive funding to travel across the state and abroad to undertake historical research and complete the first draft of a new novel.
• Justus Neumann of Bruny Island who will receive funding to write and develop a new one-man theatre work with dramaturge John Bolton.

The Government has also allocated funding to a range of initiatives for Tasmanian arts professionals including the Asialink Arts Residency Program, which provides professional and creative development opportunities in Asia.

There is also increased support for Artsbridge, a quick response fund that provides travel and freight costs to enable artists to take up opportunities interstate and overseas.
