Hydrowood investment comes to fruition
Labor Leader Bryan Green today welcomed the official launch of innovative forestry project Hydrowood.
Hydrowood was supported by the former Labor Government as part of the Tasmanian Forestry Agreement.
“This project highlights how short-sighted the Liberals were in opposing the TFA and the funding it delivered to Tasmania.
“If the Liberals had their way, this project may never have got the support it needed to get off the ground.
Mr Green said Hydrowood was a great example of innovation and value-adding in the forest industry.
“Hydrowood is exactly the kind of project that will help to ensure the long term viability of the forest industry,” Mr Green said.
“I am looking forward to seeing logs that were previously submerged in hydro dams processed through our sawmills and supplementing supplies, particularly for special timbers.
“The furniture and other high value products that will be created from this timber will have a unique story to tell.
“I congratulate SFM and everyone involved in bringing this exciting project to fruition.”
