U.G.L.Y. (Understanding, Generous, Likeable, You) Bartender of the Year is the Leukaemia Foundation’s hospitality industry fundraising campaign which I will be taking part in this year.

Bartenders register to represent U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year in their venue and create events to fundraise for the Leukaemia Foundation over the campaign period.

The campaign raises funds to help families living in regional areas impacted by leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood disorders by providing free accommodation at complexes located near major treatment centres around Australia. The free apartments, townhouses and units are designed to be a complete ‘home away from home’ for patients, carers and their families who have to temporarily relocate from regional and rural areas for specialist treatment.

Tasmanian families are frequently required to relocate to Melbourne for specialist treatment and care.

The Mill on Morrison in Hobart will be holding a fundraising evening on Monday, 9 November 2015 in support of the U.G.L.Y Bartender campaign. A number of “celebrity” bartenders will be on hand at the event to help serve patrons and to raise funds.

When I was invited to be an UGLY bartender, I was a little concerned at first! Then I realised it was all for a great cause, raising funds for the Leukaemia Foundation, so I was only too happy to get a little UGLY for the night.

Every day, 31 Australians are diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma. That is one person every 42 minutes, which is such an astounding and sobering statistic. I am happy to have been able to offer my time to help Fabian, James and their fantastic team at the Mill on Morrison raise funds for such a worthy cause.

At Monday night’s fundraising event there will be a silent auction with some fantastic items, live music and DJs, delicious food and amazing beverage specials. Entry is by way of donation, there is no need to book, just turn up and support this very worthy cause.
