Federal Liberals should work to resolve airport rates issue
The Federal Government needs to step in and resolve the dispute between the Northern Midlands Council and the Launceston Airport.
The Council claims it is owed more than a million dollars in unpaid rates from the Airport, which is on Federal land.
Labor Leader Bryan Green said Liberal MHR Eric Hutchinson should commit to working towards a solution.
“Ratepayers are shouldering the burden while this dispute drags on,” Mr Green said.
“Eric Hutchinson, on behalf of the Federal Government, should show leadership and sit down the two parties to come up with a resolution.
“Ratepayers and the services they require should be put first and the Liberals need to become involved as the owners of the land.
“It’s our understanding that representatives from the Federal Government are refusing to meet with the Council to discuss the issue.”
