Bryan Green saddles up for increased GST

Posted on

If Labor Leader Bryan Green saddled up in today’s Melbourne Cup, he’d ride around the track backwards and still come dead last.

His policy inconsistency and ability to chase newspaper headlines has today reached new lows with his stunning about face and support for increasing the GST.*

Only yesterday Labor’s finance spokesman Scott Bacon was telling media that Labor was totally opposed to a GST change, yet just one day later Mr Green has switched horses and changed Labor’s position.

Mr Green’s backflip will no doubt come as a shock not only to Mr Bacon, but also to Federal Leader Bill Shorten. In fairness, it will probably not surprise everyday Tasmanians, who recognise that Mr Green has no policy consistency and credibility, and that Labor long ago abandoned them.

Unlike Labor, the State Government’s position is clear and consistent: we don’t support raising or increasing the GST. Among other reasons, given our relative income disadvantage, Tasmanians would be the hardest hit by any increase to the GST.
