Tourism Tasmania’s stellar year
Tourism Tasmania’s annual report highlights why Tasmania has fast emerged as the place to see.
Over the past year record after record has been broken from visitation to expenditure and new market growth.
Tasmania’s unique charms have resulted in an eight per cent increase in visitors to 1.15 million, well on track to reaching our target of attracting 1.5 million each year by 2020.
People are also spending more while they’re on our shores with expenditure up by nine per cent to $1.89 million.
We are seeing more and more international visitors heading our way too, with an increase of 22 per cent to 198,000, and they’re spending a remarkable 27 per cent more than before.
Tasmania has had incredible exposure with the visit of the Chinese President, Lonely Planet ranking us in the top 10 regions to visit in 2015 and sweeping success at the Australian Tourism Awards.
But there has also been a driving force within Tourism Tasmania which has targeted our key markets better than ever before.
We have invested additional money in Tourism Tasmania to boost marketing and this included Tasmania’s largest ever Spring Campaign.
These are great results and I look forward to another exciting year ahead for tourism in Tasmania.
Will Hodgman, Premier Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events
