Tasmanians urged to have their say on development of new road safety strategy

Posted on

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to working with the community to achieve our Towards Zero goal, a long-term vision of zero deaths and serious injuries on our roads.

Today, we have embarked on an extensive two-stage public consultation process on the development of the State’s new, 10-year road safety strategy.

Adopting the Towards Zero goal, the new strategy requires a whole-of-community effort to reduce road trauma and improve the safety of all road users.

That’s why the Road Safety Advisory Council has been asked to give Tasmanians every opportunity to have their say on the development of this strategy.

Over the past couple of days Members of Parliament were briefed on the consultation process, ahead of public forums to be held around the State.

The public forums will be held on the following dates at the locations stated, and each will run in the evening from 6pm-8pm:

• Monday 16 November Rydges Hotel, 393 Argyle Street, North Hobart (South)
• Thursday 19 November West Coast Council Chambers, 11 Sticht Street, Queenstown (West)
• Monday 7 December Burnie Club, 40 Queen Street, Burnie (North West)
• Tuesday 8 December Tramsheds Function Centre, 4 Invermay Road, Launceston (North)
• Thursday 10 December Bayside Inn, 4 Cecilia Street, St Helens (East)

Tasmanians are also able to have their say in an online survey on the designated website for the new strategy at www.towardszero.tas.gov.au/home/forums
After this first stage of consultation, the Road Safety Advisory Council will go back to the community with proposed options and again allow people to have their say before a final strategy is completed.

We want Tasmanians to take ownership of the plan because without that support we cannot achieve our goal of zero deaths and serious injuries on our roads.
Rene Hidding, Minister for Infrastructure
