Support for our hard working and dedicated carers
This week is a chance to pay tribute to our hard working and dedicated carers during Carers Week.
There are almost 74,000 carers in Tasmania and 2.8 million in Australia who provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental or terminal illness, chronic condition, substance abuse issue or who are frail or aged.
Tasmania has more carers per capita than any Australian state or territory and the Tasmanian Government acknowledges and thanks them for their self-sacrificing and community-building service.
A recent Deloitte Access Economics Report estimated the economic value of informal care in Australia at $60.3 billion and 1.9 billion hours in 2015 – an amazing contribution to our community
We also commend the staff and volunteers of Carers Tasmania for their efforts in co-ordinating the Carers Week program this year.
