Solicitor-General’s unprecedented broadside
Shadow Attorney-General Lara Giddings said the Solicitor General has provided a damning insight into the culture of the Liberal Government.
“This is symptomatic of the rotten culture of secrecy and lack of accountability at the heart of this government,” Ms Giddings said.
“The Solicitor-General’s annual report has given rise to concerns that important documents are routinely being drafted or altered by Ministerial offices after having gone through Crown Law.”
“In the past the SG has made general comment about legal work in agencies but never has there been concern about interference from ministerial offices.
“The Premier must explain what legal documents have been altered in Ministerial offices.
“Does it include letters or changing of deeds for organisations in receipt of money promised during the last election campaign?
“How can Tasmanians have any confidence in the probity of the unsolicited bids process when the Government’s chief legal adviser has broadly raised the issue of interference by Ministerial offices.”
