Right to Appeal legislation passes with unanimous support
Shadow Attorney-General Lara Giddings has welcomed the passing of Right To Appeal legislation through Tasmania’s Parliament.
“This legislation will help give Tasmanians more confidence in our justice system,” Ms Giddings said.
“A convicted person should have the right to appeal a decision if fresh and compelling evidence comes to light.
“Many passionate people in the community have been calling for this type of legislation for some time.
“We must be able to have confidence that justice is being served.
“Labor was proud to support this legislation in the House of Assembly and we believe it’s a progressive step for our justice system.
“The Bill passed through the Parliament without opposition and credit on this piece of law reform should go to the Attorney-General.”
