MoUs

Posted on

It is normal business of the Government to sell and acquire property.

It is also normal and appropriate that as part of this process the Government will from time to time enter into agreements of various types, such as non-binding MoUs, to investigate potential options.

Current MoUs relating to the potential sale or transfer of land include:

• Earlier this year the Government entered into a non-binding MoU with the University and Launceston City Council to investigate moving the University to Inveresk.
• A similar MoU is also under development for the Burnie campus, but not yet signed.
• The Government is also in the process of finalising an MoU for the Devonport Living City project.
• An MoU exists between the Government, Macquarie Point Development Corporation and TasWater regarding the wastewater treatment plan and future development of the Macquarie Point site.
• An MoU has been signed with Clarence City Council for land transfer at Kangaroo Bay.
• An MoU has been signed for the former South Hobart Primary School to be effectively sold to the South Hobart Living Arts Centre, with financial assistance from the Australian and Tasmanian Governments

It’s important to note that the above list has been compiled at short notice based on initial advice from government agencies but is not necessarily exhaustive.

The Government also undertakes other confidential without prejudice negotiations with business and other parties on a regular basis. Obviously it would not be appropriate to detail these.
Matthew Groom, Minister for State Growth
