Medicinal Cannabis
This is great news for Tasmania, and what we’ve been working towards.
As I have said consistently, the only way medicinal cannabis could be administered or grown in Tasmania was with change at a Federal level, and this is now happening.
We have been working with other states and the Federal Government to reach this point.
This is a very significant step towards bringing long-awaited relief for Tasmanian families who rely on cannabis to treat their loved ones.
We look forward to working with the Federal Government on opportunities for growing medicinal cannabis in Tasmania.
Tasmania has already proven to be a world leader in the cultivation of alkaloid poppies, supplying half of the world’s demand.
I look forward to progressing this issue further with my colleagues at COAG at the end of this year.
