INQUIRY INTO GLENORCHY CITY COUNCIL – EMPLOYEES SCARED TO TALK

Posted on

The Independent Member for Denison, Andrew Wilkie, is speaking today on the Tasmanian Government board of inquiry into the Glenorchy City Council, and the fact that some Council employees are fearful of speaking up.

“It is important that the State Government’s inquiry into the Glenorchy City Council finally puts an end to the dysfunction of the last 12 months,” Mr Wilkie said.

“But I am concerned that the inquiry will not hear the full story because some Council employees are fearful of telling the inquiry what they know.

“I have it on good authority that a number of Council employees are worried that if they speak up and say what’s on their mind, or what they know, they will be sacked or otherwise punished.

“These people know better than anyone what’s going on in the Council and it is vitally important that they be given every opportunity to safely tell their story.

“I am available to speak to any employees if they want to express their concerns with me or would like me to communicate their concerns anonymously to the inquiry.”
