Devonport: Business Crime Forum

Posted on

Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania has responded to notifications that Devonport and surrounding districts have experienced a period of increased activities, particularly business burglaries.

State Chairman, Jan Dunsby, advises that a Business Crime Forum for all business owners will be held on Wednesday 7 October, 6.00pm, at Devonport City Council offices, 44-48 Best Street, Devonport.

“We have partnered with Tasmania Police, Devonport City Council and Jackson Security Services to present this forum. We wish to arm business owners with information they can utilise to protect their businesses and staff.”

Acting Commander Tim Dooley of Western District is committed to reducing the impact of crime upon the area and the forum is seen as an opportunity to help inform the local business community about increasing their own resistance to criminal activities. Other strategies, which will be discussed include ‘target hardening’, use of alarm systems and closed circuit TV, appropriate signage, display techniques and lighting..

Shoplifting is an ongoing concern and increasing staff awareness around this is important and can greatly assist police investigations. The forum is an opportunity to discuss this.

Business operators can play a key role in their own security and awareness so the forum is a chance for Police to provide information and relevant pointers for the local business community. It is hoped that the forum will assist businesses to become more active in reducing their vulnerability to crime and to have an understanding on what may happen should they be affected by an incident.

Ms Dunsby advises that the forum is free for all attendees and welcomes enquiries by telephoning 0419 328 469.
