Crop protection permit extension great news for farmers

Posted on

Today’s announcement that crop protection permits will be extended from 12 months to five years is great news for Tasmanian farmers.

Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association CEO Peter Skillern said that the move would allow farmers, and people acting on their behalf, to undertake better management of browsing animals on their properties.

“Our members will now be able to prepare wildlife management plans for multiple seasons, rather than being curtailed to just one; improving the outlook for the long-term viability of their farms and the sustainability of the browsing species,’’ Mr Skillern said.

“We are very supportive of the government’s move to reduce red tape and paperwork for farmers. It is moves like this that will assist us to grow the value of the agricultural sector to $10 billion by 2050.”
