Bipartisan ChAFTA deal welcomed
The Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association has welcomed the news that the Federal Government and the Federal Opposition have come to an agreement over the China–Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA).
TFGA CEO Peter Skillern said that it was great news that the enabling legislation for the deal would pass through parliament with bipartisan support.
“It’s heartening to see that both the Liberal and the Labor parties recognise the importance of trade to the Australian agricultural sector, and to the Tasmanian economy,’’ Mr Skillern said.
“The tariff reductions that ChAFTA will bring over the next decade will be a great benefit to Tasmanian farmers and encourage further investment into the sector.”
