AMINYA TRANSFER A WIN FOR THE NORTH EAST COMMUNITY

Posted on

Today Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Aged Care, Senator Helen Polley welcomed the announcement that MAY Shaw Health will take over the running of Scottsdale aged care facility Aminya.

“Today is a great day for residents of Aminya, their families, the staff of Aminya and really the entire North Eastern Tasmanian community,” Senator Polley said.

Presbyterian Care has been negotiating the transfer and the community has rallied behind Aminya to keep the facility open.

“This facility really is close to the heart of the entire community and rightly so. It cares for the loved ones of so many. Ultimately, this result would not have been possible without the tireless work of the community, led by the Mayor of Dorset Council, Greg Howard. His leadership over the last few months has been exceptional, furthermore Independent MLC for Apsley, Tania Rattray has rallied the community to the cause and Tim Jacobson and his team at the Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) have not given up,” Senator Polley said.

Senator Polley said that government must always have a role to play when facilities of such importance care for the most vulnerable.

“Today just shows that government, the community and business can work together toward a mutually beneficial outcome. The community told everyone that this facility was too important to lose. Thank you to MAY Shaw Health for listening, and thank you to everyone involved who rallied to save Aminya,” Senator Polley said.
