Work to start on $1.2m Lyell Highway improvements
The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to investing in the infrastructure we need to grow our economy and create jobs.
Work will start next month on a $1.2 million project to improve the key strategic passenger, freight and tourism route between Hobart and Queenstown.
Tasmanian company Andrew Walter Constructions Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to improve the Lyell Highway’s road surface between south of Brady’s Lake and Wilsons Straight.
Road works are programmed to start in October 2015 and are expected to be completed by the end of February 2016, weather permitting.
The Government’s strong investment in road infrastructure, such as the $500 million, 10-Year Action Plan for the Midland Highway, is providing certainty for the civil construction industry.
This is an important sector that not only keeps our economy moving, it employs a great many Tasmanians.
The Lyell Highway work includes improvements on a 0.4km section of road at Wilsons Straight and a 3.5km section south of Brady’s Lake on the Lyell Highway.
Speed restrictions and altered traffic conditions will be in place throughout the construction period to ensure a safe work place for construction staff.
Delays to the travelling public can be expected in the vicinity of the construction works for the duration of the project.
Please obey all signs and allow sufficient time for travelling through these work areas.
Further information about the project can be found on the Department of State Growth website: www.transport.tas.gov.au/road/projects
