Rockliff ignoring crisis in Biosecurity Tasmania
Primary Industries Minister Jeremy Rockliff is burying his head in the sand over a crisis in Biosecurity Tasmania.
“The Minister claims he didn’t know about a $1.9 million budget deficit after it was exposed in leaked documents from a meeting of senior Biosecurity managers,” Mr Green said.
“What is even worse now is that Mr Rockliff is doing nothing to address the threat to jobs in Biosecurity Tasmania and its capacity to deal with the risks of pest invasion.
“Labor has been warning the Government of the emergency for more than a year and raised concerns over the enormous stress the workforce is under.
“Mr Rockliff must accept responsibility and act immediately.
“Instead of blaming everyone else, the Minister should do something about it.
“No matter what Mr Rockliff says, the fact is the Liberal Government has failed to adequately fund Biosecurity Tasmanian which has directly caused this crisis.
“Why else would Biosecurity managers be raising the prospect of cutting programs and jobs.
“This is a perilous situation that is placing our biosecurity and the growth of our primary industries at serious risk.”
