MyState report shows Tasmania heading in the right direction

Posted on

Today’s economic report from MyState confirms that under the Hodgman Liberal Government, Tasmania is heading in the right direction.

Most significantly, it shows that job creation under the Government is benefitting the State.

The report states that “renewed signs of job creation over the past few months is a pleasing development for workers, businesses and the economy as a whole” and that “both employment and the participation rate have been improving and are meaningfully up on levels 18 months ago, when the labour market bottomed out.”

I whole-heartedly agree with the report’s finding that “the Tasmanian economy is firmly on the rebound and the outlook remains very positive.”

While there is still a long way to go, for the first time in years there is a real sense of confidence about the Tasmanian economy, with the tourism and hospitality industries at record highs, building and construction showing strong growth and retail trade at unprecedented levels.

Importantly, the areas of our economy that are showing growth, such as tourism, resources and agriculture, all have strong connections to our regional and rural communities, which will help drive economic development and job creation right around the State and support the aims of the population strategy that we released this week.

The Hodgman Liberal Government’s long-term Plan is all about supporting growth, confidence and job creation and this report shows that we are on the right track.
