The Liberal Government’s huge broken promise to the racing industry is now confirmed in black and white.
A statement from Tasracing indicates stakes money will be cut across all three codes by 13%.
“This is a massive broken promise from the Liberals and a blow to owners, trainers and jockeys,” Shadow Racing Minister Scott Bacon said.
“The Liberals have wiped off more than $2.5 million from stakes across the board.
“Today’s announcement is in stark contrast to the promise the Liberals made to actually increase stakes money before the election.”
A Liberal press release February 26 2014 said “boosting stakes across all three racing codes will be a priority for a majority Liberal Government, as this is the key to driving growth in the industry”.
“The Premier and Racing Minister should hang their heads in shame,” Mr Bacon said.
