Cannabis Trials
Tasmania’s participation in clinical trials of medicinal cannabis have advanced with the Tasmanian Government hosting meetings with the Director of the NSW Centre for Medicinal Cannabis Research and Innovation.
I am very pleased we were able to facilitate meetings in Hobart on Thursday between the Director of the NSW Centre for Medicinal Cannabis Research and Innovation, also NSW Chief Scientist and Engineer, Professor Mary O’Kane, and senior members of the Health Department, University of Tasmania, my Department, and my office.
The meetings explored ways Tasmania can be involved in NSW trials and research to understand cannabis and cannabis products for therapeutic purposes. While we are still at a very early stage, the discussions were very positive.
The medical use of cannabis-defined products is a complex issue and I am pleased the NSW trials, which we are supporting, are taking an evidence-based approach.
