30 Jobs in 30 Days gets underway

Posted on

The Liberal Government’s number one priority is jobs and Whitelion shares in this commitment.

Today, Whitelion has again taken on the task to create “30 Jobs in 30 Days” as part of its fifth annual campaign.

Since its inception in 2011, Whitelion has hit the mark every year, finding work for more than 140 Tasmanians. Importantly, the overwhelming majority has continued in ongoing employment.

This year’s theme, “a first job is a gateway to success” recognises that for many young people the chance to get their foot in the door is all it takes to create a better future.

As a Government we want to ensure every Tasmanian has the opportunity to get a good job and live a fulfilling life.

Since the election, more than 6,200 new jobs have been created and 2,100 of those have been taken up by young Tasmanians, with the youth unemployment rate showing improvement.

We want to see this trend continue, and that’s why we’ve partnered with Whitelion, investing $300,000 in its Youth@Risk program to help 200 young Tasmanians to get job-ready, find long-term work or re-engage with education and training.

We are also investing $315 million into a jobs package, more than $100 million in skills and training programs and $45 million in extending our rural and regional high schools to year 12 to ensure better educational outcomes for young Tasmanians.

I congratulate Whitelion for its success in creating jobs for young Tasmanians, and I look forward to continuing to work with them to give even more young Tasmanians a chance to work.
