Tasmania’s natural resources are fundamental to our way of life, and the Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to ensuring our natural resources are managed for the benefit of the Tasmanian community.
The Government is reviewing the effectiveness of Tasmania’s two principal instruments for natural resource management: the Natural Resource Management Act 2002 and the Tasmanian Natural Resource Management Framework.
The statutory review will consider opportunities to strengthen Tasmania’s natural resource management arrangements. It is the first step towards ensuring that the arrangements are best practice, contemporary, and meet community needs and expectations.
The Government is committed to a full and open public consultation process. To help stimulate input, a discussion paper is available on the Department website at www.dpipwe.tas.gov.au.
I encourage all Tasmanians with an interest in the future management of our natural resources to provide a contribution to the review.
The period for public comment will close on 31 August 2015.
Matthew Groom, Minister for Environment, Parks and Heritage
