Primary Industries Minister Jeremy Rockliff can no longer ignore serious concerns over the well being of workers at Biosecurity Tasmania.

“A survey highlighting low morale and stress that workers are under is very worrying,” Mr Llewellyn said.

“It is time Mr Rockliff finally acknowledged there is a problem and did something about it.

“The Liberal Government’s approach to Tasmania’s quarantine and customs services is stretching staff to the limit and morale is at an all time low.

“Biosecurity has had to deal with budget cuts while absorbing the whole of the invasive species branch, placing enormous pressure on front line staff.

“Mr Rockliff is asking staff to do more with less while paying lip service to their concerns.

“The welfare of staff is clearly not a priority for the Government.

“Tasmania’s ability to fight the drug trade and prevent the spread of disease is also being compromised because of the Government’s so-called new approach to biosecurity.”
