The Hodgman Liberal Government continues to build on the success of our growing friendship with China with a delegation visiting the State this week from energy and water engineering and construction services provider and investor HYDROCHINA.

Hydro Tasmania is hosting the delegation to explore further Australian and Asia Pacific opportunities for co-operation and collaboration with its specialist power and water consulting business Entura.

Entura and HYDROCHINA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) last November during the Chinese President’s visit to Tasmania. The MOU focused on co-operation on the development of opportunities in the energy and water sectors, including hydropower and renewable energy, sustainability and environmental management and power transmission.

Following meetings in Beijing earlier in the year, including one as part of the Premier’s visit to China in April, HYDROCHINA and Entura are currently exploring development opportunities within Australia.

The key focus of this week’s talks will be the potential to build on the complementary skills and reputation of both parties, drawing on Tasmania’s proud history of achievement in hydropower development, engineering and water management.

The work will be further advanced when I lead a trade mission to China in September which will include representatives from Hydro Tasmania.
