The Liberal Government must immediately address worrying jobs data in key sectors of Tasmania’s economy.
Statistics from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show 2000 jobs have been lost in the mining sector over the last twelve months.
The Liberals have also overseen the loss of 700 jobs in agriculture, forestry and fishing over the same period.
Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said the figures demanded urgent action from the Government.
“Resources Minister Paul Harriss has clearly lost control of his portfolio and this data increases the pressure on him to resign,” Mr Bacon said.
“Mr Harriss made huge promises to the forestry and mining sectors but 2000 jobs have been lost in mining under his watch.
“The 700 jobs lost in agriculture, forestry and fishing do not include those being sacked at Forestry Tasmania.
“Paul Harriss loves playing politics and talking tough but he is doing nothing to stimulate jobs growth in his portfolio.
“He’s a Minister under extreme pressure already but these figures only make matters worse.”
