Labor Leader Bryan Green today accused Resources Minister Paul Harris of washing his hands of workers losing their jobs at Forestry Tasmania.

“Mr Harriss is refusing to even acknowledge the axe is hanging over the jobs of at least 100 workers,” Mr Green said.

“And that’s because Mr Harriss looked these forestry Tasmania workers in the eye before the last election and guaranteed that their jobs would be safe.

“Now Mr Harriss is sending a wrecking ball through Forestry Tasmania.

“Workers are being sacked, public assets sold and the operations of Forestry Tasmania wound back.

“And to top it off, Mr Harriss is not ruling out taxpayer subsidies to the private sector to process forest residues.

“Mr Harriss is singlehandedly achieving what former Greens Leader Kim Booth had been trying to do his whole political career, destroy Forestry Tasmania.

“It was a woeful performance in Budget Estimates today by Mr Harriss who refused to answer questions on forestry and continually misrepresented the facts.”
