Treasurer Peter Gutwein has made a mockery of the Estimates process inside the first hour of this week’s hearings.
When asked simple questions around significant cuts to the public service, Mr Gutwein refused to answer.
Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said the Treasurer failed to answer more than 20 consecutive questions put to him by the Opposition.
“Budget Estimates is meant to be about scrutinising the Government,” Mr Bacon said.
“The Treasurer’s arrogance is not allowing that to happen.
“The public deserves to have simple questions answered.
“The Treasurer is surrounded by a huge team of well-paid advisors but refuses to answer yes or no questions.
“The public has a right to know what its taxes are being spent on. Estimates is a very expensive process to run.”
