The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to getting the State’s finances back on track and back in the black.
A major part of our savings program is to rein in spending on supplies and consumables.
Between 2015-16 and 2018-19, we are on track to save $190 million based on what Labor and the Greens were budgeting to spend in their 2013-14 Budget and Forward Estimates.
Growth in supplies and consumables spending is forecast to grow by just half a per cent per year.
In 2015-16, the Government will spend around $20 million less than in 2014-15 on supplies and consumables.
While the State has benefitted from a GST windfall, without our savings plan, including savings on supplies and consumables, the State would remain in deficit for the next four years, even with the extra GST revenue.
Our savings plan, including our reduction in spending on supplies and consumables, is vital to making sure the budget is put back on a sustainable footing so that we can continue to invest in frontline services.
