The Liberal Government is committed to reining in spending so we can better invest in essential services like health, education and police.

Since coming to office we have reduced the number of Senior Executive Service officers, the Government’s most senior public servants, by 19.

It is estimated that this has saved the Government some $3.5 million annually.

When we came into Government there were 166 State Executive Service officers, this was reduced to 160 by June last year and further reduced to 147 by March 2015.

The reductions occurred in areas including the Department of Premier and Cabinet, the Department of Treasury and Finance, the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services.

Significant savings of about $500,000 were also made over the past year when SES salaries were frozen for one year in line with the Government’s commitment to fix the budget mess.

The Liberal Government is demonstrating budget discipline, which is assisting to get the budget back on track and back in the black sooner than promised.
