Power prices remain lower overall under the Hodgman Liberal Government following today’s decision from the Economic Regulator of a 1.95 per cent increase.
Last year, electricity prices fell 7.8 percent, largely as a result of the repeal of the carbon tax.
While spiralling electricity prices were a hallmark of the previous Labor-Green government, rising an incredible 65 per cent in seven years, under the Hodgman Liberal Government spiralling prices are now a thing of the past.
However the Government believes that there is still more that can be done to ensure that Tasmanians pay the lowest possible sustainable power prices into the future.
That’s why our Tasmanian Energy Strategy includes a suite of actions that will deliver on the Government’s commitment to the Tasmanian people. These are real actions that will deliver real results.
New and innovative energy efficiency initiatives will be developed to assist with productivity improvements for businesses and put downward pressure on electricity prices for households, particularly vulnerable households.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is delivering on its promise to once again make energy an advantage for Tasmanians, delivering fair power prices that are amongst the lowest in the nation in order to help drive investment, create jobs and reduce cost pressures on households and business.
