The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to making sure the budget is sustainable.
The Government is forecasting a return to surplus next year, three years ahead of schedule, but it’s important that we stay the course.
That’s why the Government will shortly be introducing amendments to the Charter of Budget Responsibility Act 2007 making it compulsory for Fiscal Sustainability Reports to be prepared and released every five years.
The Report will provide clear information on the long-term sustainability of the State’s finances and model various scenarios to make sure the Government of the day is properly planning for the future.
The first Report is currently being prepared by Treasury and will be released later in the year.
