The Liberal Government’s claim that 8000 jobs will be created as a result of a $315 million job package has been shattered in Budget estimates.
The Treasurer, Peter Gutwein, was forced to admit that the estimate of 8000 jobs was based on Treasury’s projections of employment growth in the overall economy and not directly attributable to the jobs package.
“The claim that 8000 jobs would be created by the $315 million jobs package* has been exposed as a lie,” Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said.
“Yet again this Government has been caught out being tricky and deceitful.”
Meanwhile the Premier, Will Hodgman, could not provide a breakdown of how many jobs would be created by each project in the jobs package.
Labor Leader Bryan Green said the Premier had again been hoodwinked by the Treasurer.
“The Premier couldn’t answer the question because no such breakdown exists,” Mr Green said.
“The Government has taken projections for jobs growth across the broader economy and tried to claim that it is solely attributable to their investment. Today their deceit has been exposed for all to see.”
