The government’s decision to review the way fireworks permits are issued is welcome.

It should ultimately provide for people and businesses which may be impacted by fireworks to be informed that applications have been made, and given opportunity to make submissions before permits are issued.

The shambles at Bonorong last week made it very clear that the system is broken because it fails to provide any opportunity for businesses and people to have their views heard before permits are issued.
