Today’s Budget Estimates hearings show why Bryan Green’s leadership is under such pressure.
Mr Green seemed more interested in trying to rewrite history and defend Labor’s failed time in office, than actually asking questions about the budget.
Over three hours in DPAC estimates, Labor failed to move on from the “overview” section and didn’t ask a single question of detail about spending in DPAC or Ministerial and Parliamentary Support.
As it happens, the only information to be provided about expenditure in DPAC and Ministerial and Parliamentary Support was as a result of questions from Liberal committee members.
Apart from that, there was none of the usual vim and vigour that Mr Green is renowned for or promised. He seemed flat and out of sorts. Clearly the mounting leadership tensions are taking their toll.
Meanwhile, Scott Bacon had a chance to prove his leadership credentials but failed to have any real impact. In fact, Mr Bacon’s questions were dreary, bland, uninspiring and more often than not, completely pointless.
Perhaps Mr Llewellyn, who was inexplicably not included in the weekend’s leadership poll, is still a chance to come through the pack and claim Mr Green’s job.
