The fact that the Prime Minister has refused to commit to spending the $16 million Cadbury money in the Glenorchy area in response to my question today in Federal Parliament is bitterly disappointing and another broken promise.

There is a specific need for economic stimulus in the Glenorchy area and Cadbury’s decision not to invest that money in no way changes the urgent need for such stimulus spending in the city.

The whole state is under pressure right now and in fact youth unemployment is higher in the south-east than in the north-west.

80 staff at the Claremont factory have lost their jobs and the Prime Minister is doing nothing to assist them.

It’s obvious that this Government doesn’t care about these workers at all and is instead more interested in using this $16 million as a political slush fund to get the three amigos in Bass, Braddon and Lyons re-elected.

This is another terrible case of cynical politics being put above the public interest. No wonder politicians are so unpopular in the broader community.
