With the Federal Budget released, the Hodgman Liberal Government is focusing on finalising our State Budget for 2015-16.
Tasmania is heading in the right direction and our second budget will be all about building on the momentum.
The Federal Budget confirmed that Tasmania will receive a GST windfall of around $130 million in 2015-16 and Tasmanians know that the Hodgman Liberal Government will invest this additional money wisely.
Jobs are the Government’s number one priority and the extra GST provides an opportunity to invest wisely in job-creating infrastructure that will continue to benefit Tasmania long after the money has been spent.
It’s clear that the economy is growing faster in the South than it is in the North and North West and I can confirm that the upcoming budget will contain new investments in job-creating infrastructure, particularly in the North and the North-West of the State.
Unlike Labor and the Greens we won’t be using it for recurrent spending that we won’t be able to afford in future years.
Peter Gutwein, Treasurer
