Four of Tasmania’s leading female state politicians are banding together to eliminate violence against women in Tasmania and have invited donations of light coloured sheets and red spray paint in support of the Rise for Olga campaign.
The death of Olga Dizon, who lost her life last week, sparked the ’Rise for Olga’ social media and grassroots campaign, which now includes more than 560 members.
A candlelight vigil to honour Olga and to support her friend Josephine, who was also injured in the incident, was held last Saturday night on Parliament Lawns with over two hundred people in attendance.
State Members of Parliament, Cassy O’Connor, Speaker of the House of Assembly Elise Archer, Minister Jacquie Petrusma and Ex-Premier Lara Giddings have offered their many offices as a drop off point for goods.
All four politicians spoke about their support of the campaign and the prevention of violence against women and children at the candlelight vigil last weekend.
Sabine Wagner, spokesperson for the ‘Rise for Olga” campaign thanked the MPs for their support of this serious issue.
“39 women in Australia who have lost their life to violence this year in Australia alone. All of which could have been prevented.”
“It is wonderful to have the support from the community and from these formidable four women leaders.”
Anyone who wants to make a difference can do so by donating to Rise for Olga or by dropping off sheets and red paint at the following locations or by joining us on Facebook.
