The Liberal Government has found itself in a sticky situation when it comes to a promise of reducing ‘red tape’ by 20%.
The year’s Budget papers reveal the Government hasn’t worked out a way to actually measure its progress.
In relation to ‘Red Tape Reduction’ the budget states “data is not available or measurement has not yet commenced”.
Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said it’s an embarrassing development for a much talked up election promise.
“All we heard before the election was the Liberals promising to cut red tape by 20%, now they’ve admitted they don’t even know how to measure it,” Mr Bacon said.
“15 months into government and the Liberals have failed to reduce red tape by 1%, let alone 20.
“It’s time they owned up to the policy being nothing more than a one-line slogan.”
