Labor Leader Bryan Green will proudly work with the Federal Opposition to assure Tasmania has the best opportunity to grow its economy.
The establishment of a Tasmanian Taskforce was announced today.
“The work of the Taskforce will help shape Labor’s policy platform when it comes to creating jobs and strengthening the economy,” Mr Green said.
“Labor, at both a State and Federal level, is optimistic about Tasmania’s economic future but we need greater leadership than what’s being shown by the Liberals.
“The Liberal Party’s response to significant job losses on the North West Coast has been lacklustre, with no urgency shown to save 280 direct jobs at Caterpillar.
“Virtually every major promise the Liberals made to Tasmania at the last Federal election has either been abandoned or delayed, including the $16 million for Cadbury, the Hobart runway extension and the NBN rollout.
“There are still funds under the $100 million Tasmanian Forest Agreement that haven’t been delivered.”
Mr Green said he was working closely with his Federal Labor colleagues to get better outcomes for Tasmania.
“The Taskforce will engage widely to gain an in-depth understanding of the challenges facing Tasmanian businesses and their key priorities for the future.
“Labor’s determined to build a strong policy base to offer Tasmanians an alternative to conservative governments here and in Canberra.
“I look forward to working hard with my Federal Labor colleagues to make the taskforce a success and put forward ideas that will benefit Tasmania’s future.
“I thank Bill Shorten and his team for their commitment to Tasmania at a time when Tony Abbott and Will Hodgman’s cuts continue to hurt.”
