Forestry Tasmania will maintain its firefighting capacity under the restructure and the commitment to protecting communities has not changed.
Forestry Tasmania will continue to be part of Tasmania’s inter-agency fire service, and has upskilled additional staff and made increased use of contractors in recent fire seasons.
As we’ve said previously, the Hodgman Liberal Government will continue to fund Forestry Tasmania’s firefighting obligations in the Budget, with $4 million to be provided this year.
We will always take a whole-of-Government and whole-of-industry approach to ensure there are sufficient firefighting resources and initiatives such as the Fuel Reduction Unit will continue to play an important preventative role in bushfire management.
