The Greens campaign team for Windermere and candidate Vanessa Bleyer deserve congratulations for their short but effective campaign, said Greens Leader Kim Booth MP today.

“The greens vote held up or increased in 15 booths” (see table)

“Norwood was up 4.6% and Weymouth 9% on the 2010 State Election,” said Mr Booth

“If this was an election for a state lower house seat, those numbers would see Vanessa Bleyer elected”

“Single member electorates are difficult , as the incumbent has had 12 years to talk about himself whilst Vanessa had a mere four weeks”

” With the pulp mill threat removed, voters traditionally choosing so called ” independents “, the incumbency factor and the very short campaign, the Green vote held up well and increased across a number of booths from 2014”

“We are all immensely proud of Vanessa Bleyer, she stood up to be counted for the Greens and in 4 short weeks, whilst still working full time, managed to force the incumbent of 12 years to preferences” Mr Booth said.
