Today’s announcement from Caterpillar is very disappointing for its workers and the North West Coast community.
We remain steadfast in our commitment to work with the community to support local jobs and keep advanced manufacturing capacity on the Coast.
This reinforces the importance of the Advanced Manufacturing Summit, which the Minister for State Growth will lead in Burnie on May 19.
The summit will develop a blue-print for a way forward for the North West Coast.
We will work with the industry to seek out new opportunities for the sector and develop partnerships that promote the skills, expertise and innovation that are abundant in our state.
The Transition Taskforce is also continuing its work to retain jobs and create as many new jobs as possible. The State Budget will include funding for the recommendations of the Taskforce.
We want to ensure advanced manufacturing has a strong future and continues to support jobs on the North West Coast.
I want to assure the North West Coast we will stand by them through these challenging times.
Jeremy Rockliff, Deputy Premier
