Tasmanians are set to receive a budget this week that’s short on vision, compassion and empathy.
Instead of using the windfall GST gain to re-fund the essential public services that they slashed, the Liberals will invest in concrete and asphalt to try to prop up their seats at the next election.
Mr Gutwein’s laughable attempt to take credit for the GST windfall is like a lottery winner saying their million dollar prize is due to robust management of their household budget.
Infrastructure investment should transition Tasmania out of the old economy and into the new, but the Liberals are still focused on chopping it down, digging it up and building more roads.
The Liberals promised before the election that frontline jobs and services would be quarantined from cuts. They now have a chance to deliver, but the budget will show that that roads are more important to them than people.
